I really haven't been paying much attention to this thread, but since
someone mentioned Washington Co., PA, I thought I would contribute my 2
cents. I have the Curry name in my family from Fayette Co., PA. They were
one of the families on the UGRR. Their home was on or near Baker's Alley in
Uniontown. Not far from their home is an historical marker about the UGRR.
They are members of one of the oldest Black churches in Uniontown. I have
some info somewhere on the family. They are not one of my direct family
lines so I would have to find me info. My family that they connect to are
the Thomases from Fauquier Co who were FPOC.

If you look at the census he is not the only black family living between
white families. This is not unusual even before slavery ended. There are
white Curry families in the area. There are a lot of variables to consider.
You have to read the laws and the history of the county. His and her last
owner could of let them work or sell items and keep the money. Yes he had
property and money. He saved and he bought his home or rented. This is not
unusual after slavery ended.
