According to the book,
The reverend William Douglas came to St. James northam parish in goochland
county, VA, Dover church, on the 12th of October 1750. A memorandum in the
register shows that he had charge of St. James northam parish for 27 years:
Maniken town (king William parish) for 19 years and ministered to a charge in
Buckingham County for 4 years.
..............................................................

"this book is known as the Douglas register for the reason that it not only
contains a record of births, christenings, marriages and deaths and funerals
in St. James Northam parish and the county of Goochland but in many instances
in adjacent counties and other more remote.
the record also is not only for the period he was in charge of St. James
Northam parish but continues after he left that parish on the 5th of Sept
1777 and went to live in the Louisa County. In fact he kept up the entries in
the register until 1797 and thus it covers a period of 92 years.
