Thank you all for your very helpful and clear guidance about plotting/platting using DeedMapper or another program.  Your advice was very useful, as was the DeedMapper website.  I also looked at the Rootsweb DeepMapper list briefly and subscribed.
 
It looks to me like it would be very worthwhile to try to plot/plat deeds in a specific locality -- a county or an area of a county.  It appears that trying to plot a lineage -- say my husband's Phillips family -- from 16-something forward would not be practical.  They moved around a lot and bought and sold [...]45_22Jul200916:26:[log in to unmask]

Does anyone have a copy of the three volume set by Louis A. Burgess titled 
"Virginia Soldiers of 1776" published in 1928 and reprinted in 2008?   
Researching the name Prillaman which is in the volumes three times but spelled as 
Prilman
