I know he was in Preston County, VA. Now WV. He served in service from 1859 -1863. I guess he got out after WV became a state.

Thanks, Jean Cooper, for your information about accessing Slave Schedules. I
checked it at once for my state, and discovered that I wouldn't have to
scroll through the whole state to find my county if I guessed at how deep in
the state my county would appear alphabetically. Then I entered a guessed-at
image number at the top right, and refined the number until I found my
county!
