"The Hessians and the Other German Auxiliaries of Great Britain in the Revolutionary War" by Edward Lowell, published 1884.

This is more of a history book than genealogy, and although it's about Germans it does include stuff about the Rev. War fought in Virginia. And the author estimates 5,000 troops deserted, so probably a good deal of them settled in VA. Thank goodness the guy wrote the book, because most of the German sources the author quotes (and lists in the Appendix) were destroyed during WWII by the bombing.
