To all:
Herb graciously sent me a copy of the article "John Major of Charles City
Co., Virginia and Rebecca Chandler of Cumberland Co., Virginia..." published
in 2006 by the Carolina Herald and written by none other than ol' Herb.
While he might wish to smack me up side of my head for this, I HIGHLY
recommend that anyone, with at least a passing interest in the
Major/Chandler family lines, email Herb and ask him for a copy of the
article.
What Herb does in the article is provide well-researched and
well-thought-out insight into what has gone wrong with others that have
looked into the Major/Chandler family lines. The article is fairly short,
well-written, and easy to understand. Above all else, Herb goes into some
detail about the traps earlier writers placed in our path. Without
specifically pointing to it, he shows the real importance of in-depth
research and being able to cite that research so that it can stand on its
own.
What Herb does not do in the article is build family tree's, show complete
generational information, or provide copies of the numerous records that he
has supporting his conclusions. The article was not the place for these
things and, for those interested enough, he does provide a means for
obtaining them in the article.
Well done, Herb!
Tom
