I highly recommend a tome entitled : THe History of the Westward Movement by
Frederick MERCK. I no longer have it and obtianed it at the local library in
Minneapolis but i believe he was a Harvard history professor and a prodigious
writer.

The first half of the book was all I needed but it was well w ritten, not too
dry and gave lots of credible info and not biased in the least!
