Bradford Duncan Smith is my g-g-g-grandfather, born about 1780 presumably in Virginia. His father's surname is Duncan, however Bradford's mother remarried a Smith when he was young, hence his surname Smith. However he kept his original surname of Duncan as his middle name. He had an older brother, Charles, who did not change his last name. There is a Charles Duncan who died of wounds suffered in the Battle of New Orleans. There is evidence this Charles may be that older brother.

Bradford married Nance Ann Jacobs 24 March 1812 in Orange County, Virginia.

War of 1812, Act of February 14, 1871, Brief of Claim for a Widow's Pension in the case of Nancy Smith, widow of Bradford Smith has Bradford Smith enlisted 4 Sept 1814 and discharged 17 Dec 1814, one hundred and five days, PVT, Capt E. Harding's Co., Virginia Militia . National Archives copy of Bounty Land Warrant Application filed by Nancy Smith, widow of Bradford Smith, filed June 26th, 1871.

According to a copy of Bradford's service record received from the National Archives he served July 22 to August 18, 1814, a period of 27 days. He served as a Private in a Detachment of Infantry commanded by Capt. Barton S. Stone, 45 Reg't Virginia Militia. His pay was $8.00 a month, or $7.20 for his 27 days service.

Also these records indicate his distance from home was 12 miles. However, there is no specific record of where home was or where he served. However, the 45th Regiment did serve or was raised in Stafford County, Virginia.

I would greatly appreciate any information that may help identify Bradford's father and mother, and his stepfather, and his brother Charles.
