Oh and if anyone has any idea what something like:

"Wm. Lucas Departed this Life 7ber ye 3d, 1718." means..

....I'd be grateful to be clued in.  Is this July 3rd, 1718?  A point on
a sun dial?  Did they start the year at the Spring Equinox in 1718 and
this is maybe September 3rd?
There are a bunch of these numbered -bers, almost always with numbers of
months that don't end in -ber.
