During the formative years of this Republic, there was a movement to create
it as a constitutional monarchy, naming George WASHINGTON as King. Thanks
be to those who opposed.

Many years ago (possibly 40 or 50), Life Magazine did a feature article on
who would have been King of this country, at the time that the article was
published, if this had become a constitutional monarchy.

According to the article, George WASHINGTON had children, as did Thomas
JEFFERSON, by some of his female slaves. A descendant of one of the
liaisons would have been become King.

Any large metropolitan library should be able to find the article for you,
if you are interested.
