attempts to  fix all this, what there was of Fredericksburg was pretty well
decimated by the war."

The war? What war? The Revolutionary War? I was unaware of any major
destruction that took place in Fredericksburg during the Revolution.

Should that date be 22 May 1872? Are we talking about the Civil War instead?
