Actually, the Monteiths are an old family in the Graham clan of Scotland.  If I'm not mistaken, their lines go back to the Norman Invasion.  I'm descended from the Grahams and the Monteiths (many, MANY years back), and they are descendants of Robert the Bruce.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!
