Just in time for the holidays, the Alexandria Library, Special Collections
has a new online index “World War 1 Draft Registrations for Northern
Virginia.” There are 11,075 names included for Alexandria, Arlington
(formerly Alexandria County), and Fairfax County.

Approximately 7400 names are from Alexandria and Arlington and 3700 names
are from Fairfax County. Included are men from other locations both in
Virginia and elsewhere who happened to be in the area on a registration
date. We have railroad workers from South Dakota and shipyard workers from
Norfolk.

This project would not have happened except for the long term loan of a zoom
lens from our friends in the Virginia Room of the Fairfax City Regional
Library.
