Can someone shed light on? on what the rent rolls are, also called early census records, I found this but not sure what it means, is this where someone actually rented a home/land, could this be a sharecropper, in the later census this person appears as White, but found a marriage certificate and there is a Miles Hart allowing his daughter Elizabeth to be married to Henry Goings, the couple are called Free Mixtures.. Is there an assumption that Miles Hart could be a person of color and the 1810 through 1830 census are incorrect by calling him white? Thanks for any input. Shelley
