The story about the State of Franklin is indeed interesting.
If anyone wants to know more about it, there have been
two books written on it:

1. Williams, Samuel Cole.  History of the Lost State of
Franklin. Rev. ed.  Philadelphia, 1974.  378 pp.
[F436.W722 1974]  Reprint of earlier editions of 1924
and 1933 - same call #.

2. Gerson, Noel Bertram.  Franklin, America's "lost
state".  New York, 1968.  167 pp. [F436.G4 1968]
