In response to the many inquires received from both the public and private sectors, the Library of Virginia has prepared a statement regarding the use of text messaging and private e-mail accounts to conduct the business of government. Below the Library's statement is a link to a similar one released jointly by the Council of State Archivists, the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators, and the Society of American Archivists.

We hope this helps inform your thinking and planned use of these means of communication. The statement may be found linked at the fourth bullet under "Guidance" on the Records Management homepage<http://www.lva.virginia.gov/agencies/records/>.

Thank you,

Glenn T. Smith
