Chesapeake Police Department has been working with Laserfiche and Unity Business Systems since 2008. We currently use Laserfiche in several different areas within our department; Finance, Personnel, Training Academy, Criminal Investigations and Central Records. We are getting ready to bring our Animal Control and ECC Dispatch Centers onboard this summer. Our main use of Laserfiche is for document storage and retrieval. We have also incorporated workflow into our scanning process which has taken the guess work out of which folders the records need to go. Along with incorporating workflow, we have put in all of the retention schedules for each type of record making destruction much easier. Depending on what area we are using Laserfiche, we have also customized the templates for each record type making retrieval easier and quicker for all users. Unity Business Systems has been amazing in helping us convert our records over from paper to electronic format. Thru our conversion process, we had run into some water damaged records, rodent infested records and possible mold on some records being stored in a trailer at our training facility. With help from Unity Business Solutions and the Library of Virginia, we were able to get them cleaned, frozen and scanned without having to destroy them (A potential liability for the department if records are destroyed before there retention time is up).

We have several areas that are now paperless and we are continuing our efforts to make most of our department paperless in the near future. I would recommend converting your paper records into electronic format by using Laserfiche and Unity Business Systems. Both companies have been excellent to work with and are quick to answer any questions or address problems as they arise.

Good morning!

Our town is currently looking at Laserfiche as an option for our records management. If your organization is already using Laserfiche, could you please respond with a short comment about how well it works for you, what you like most/least, what other uses you've found for Laserfiche in your organization, and whether you'd recommend the program?

Thank you,

Dallin Kimble
