State Records Center in Richmond has a chamber for freeze drying records to rescue them from this type of event.

Subject: Records Damage

All,
Our agency had a water leak in the building over the weekend, and approximately 12 file boxes of "commingled" records were severely damaged. The problem is these records were in their current unsorted state when I arrived, and I have no idea what their value may or may not be...
Can anyone give me some advice on what to do next...?
Respectfully,
Chief John P. Clair
