John,

In fact, Don Higginbotham repeated the first annual Governor Henry lecture
last evening at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. As I understand it, the
sponsors hope to continue this arrangement--lecture at Charlotte Courthouse
one day and in Richmond at the Library the next.

I also agree that Higginbotham's discussion of the relationship between
Henry and Washington was excellent. I purchased a copy of his new book, an
edited collection of essays entitled Washington Reconsidered (University
Press of Virginia), which looks good, too.

Keep an eye open for next year's Governor Henry Lecture.

Subject: Henry - Randolph debate re-enactment and Henry lecture

Kudos to Kukla and co-sponsors, Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation, for the
re-enactment of the 1799 debate between Patrick Henry and John Randolph at
Charlotte Court House and the first annual Henry Lecture by Don Higginbotham
on the relationship between Washington and Henry! Well done!

It was standing room only in the court house for the lecture and a great
round of applause for the re-enactors and for Don Higginbotham. All in all,
it was a great day for Virginia history buffs.

It was well worth the 400+ mile round trip Sunday drive from Northern
Virginia!
(Well, I returned to Springfield via Appomatox Historic Park, but maybe
something in Richmond next year??? Henry had some of his better days there,
didn't he?)

John
