John Hope Franklin, the legendary historian whose great achievement was to
recover the history of African Americans at the center of the American
story, died this morning in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 94.

The announcement from Duke University is at
http://www.dukenews.duke.edu/2009/03/johnhopefranklin.html.

Anyone who cares about the truth of American history is in his debt.
