I have several lines in 18th century Virginia where the name Claiborne is a
given name for males. I have been unable to find any family connection to
Claibornes as yet though have only looked hard in one case, and am curious whether
or not Claiborne was chosen as a given name out of admiration for William
Claiborne, in the same manner we find in the 1800s for George Washingon,
Commodore Perry and any number of prominent figures in early American history.

Thanks in advance,

Janet (Baugh) Hunter
