I recall being in elementary school and getting a Weekly Reader one week  
with an article about various scientists predicting that there would be no clean  
water by the year 1990 due to polution.  I remember trying to figure out  how 
old I would be when the drinking water ran out.
 
Scientists and their math programs.  Bah humbug.
