John,

Don't know where you got the idea someone wanted the government to pay for 
this, and I don't know whose family you are referring to as being 
resourceful and not taking hand-outs from the government.

The Madison Hemings do not care to examine the issue further. They do not 
want their ancestor dug up and tested. So, why should they be asked to pay 
for what is only a salvo for some of the Jefferson descendents in VA.

Reading some of the passages in Jefferson's Children, I understand that some 
of the Hemings were not welcomed with open arms when they first attended a 
family reunion (at invitation no less!), some even refusing a handshake or a 
smile. This behavior is not conductive to making those folks inclined to 
open their wallets and pay to prove what they already know from family 
tradition to be true anyway.

Let those who are denying that "sufficient" proof exists pay for that which 
they will find acceptable.
