Slavery was contrary to Christ's teachings and an abomination.   However, 
those black Africans who were brought to the colonies were originally  enslaved 
by their African 'brothers" and were lucky to leave their servitude in  Africa 
for the much more benign treatment they received on this side of the  
Atlantic, and ultimately received their freedom while their African slave  "brothers" 
continued to be enslaved in Africa until the 20th  century.
