Patrick Henry (excluding Washington as stipulated by Brent) would be my
choice.  Without his voice the Revolutionary movement would never have
gotten off the ground int he Middle Colonies.  And I do not think he was
inward-looking.  He spoke for all (male, land-owning) colonists who wanted a
voice in self-rule.
