Henry,

Yes, Mr. Browning, as Mr. Wiencek says, please carefully read the
Monticello Report and while there check out the Getting Word Board
Members, Dianne Swann-Wright, Chairperson of the Monticello Study Group
coordinated with this board on slavery history matters as well and see
if you detect any bias in such statements that not just one but possibly
ALL children were TJs. There is no meat or backing for this outrageous
statement...only ONE was tested.

See if you can find the Minority Report in the original Monticello
Report as approved by Dr. Dan Jordan. No, you can't, it was HIDDEN from
you and the public and "swept under the carpet" until I was sent a copy
by an anonymous person (still don't know who), and I was angered (as all
Americans should be) and reported this act to Mr. Brenton Halsey, then
Chairman of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation. Yes, they were
STILL "Memorial" at that time. Dan Jordan then apologized to Dr. Ken
Wallenborn and posted it on his web page. Ken "spilled the beans" on
this biased and one sided in-house study. He and two other senior
Monticello Guides were so angered that they would rather resign than
tell guests something that was not correct. This is the same Dr. Dan
Jordan that Jon Kukla, Henry Wiencek, Alan Pell Crawford, Peter Onuf,
Jan Lewis, Joseph Ellis and other younger historians are familiar with.

Also Mr. Browning, while there look for the Scholars Commission Report
(13 prominent and full senior scholars, men women and blacks), can't
find it on the Monticello web page........click on the Thomas Jefferson
Heritage Society page (www.tjheritage.org) and
www.angelfire.com/va/TJTruth and link to Scholars Commission Report. In
565 pages they found troubles with the Monticello Report and found NO
PROOF that TJ fathered any Hemings child. As Mr. Wiencek says, it is
Herb's view. Not quiet ALL Herb's view, please read everything on these
web pages.

There have been NO personal attacks upon Dr. Jordan at all. Everything I
have written here is based upon fact, personal letters from Dr. Jordan,
Past Chairpersons of TJF and many e-mails to and from Dr. Foster. I am
questioning his responsibilities as Monticello President to do all in
his power to present ALL facts. Not to even suggest that Dan has not
been a great "fundraiser" as the Past Chairman informed me, BUT why does
he cling to an old biased and outdated study as explained by Dr.
Wallenborn. Why does he refuse to conduct another joint research group
to study this important controversy......his foundation may own TJ's
home but TJ and his great legacy belong to us ALL. I call upon those
named above and those not named to call upon Dr. Jordan because we owe
Dan a lot as Mr. Wiencek says, to "get off center" and have another
study. As "keeper of the Jefferson flame" does he not owe society this
much?

Herb Barger
Jefferson Family Historian

Lyle Browning asks for a succinct summary of this Hemings question. You
could look at the Monticello report on their website, which is very
clearly
presented, and then look at Herb's website for another view.

Jon Kukla said what I have been thinking of saying but haven't gotten
around
to -- the personal attacks on Dan Jordan of Monticello are way, way out
of
line. He is a superb scholar, committed to a full and frank discussion
of
the Jeffersonian legacy. He presided over the creation of the
magnificent
International Center for Jefferson Studies, where scores of scholars
come
from around the world to study, discuss, and advance Jefferson studies
in an
open and impartial atmosphere. We owe Dan a lot.

Henry Wiencek
