Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center

Hosts Remembering Mosby Roundtable

A Remembering Mosby Roundtable featuring local historians and

interpreters, is set for 2 p.m., Sunday, July 10, at Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center,

10209 Main Street, Fairfax. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Roundtable discussion leaders will explore both the military and civilian life of

Confederate Colonel John S. Mosby, who commanded the 43rd Battalion of Virginia

Cavalry, known as "Mosby's Rangers," during the Civil War. Discussion of Mosby's

military actions will focus on events that took place in the Fairfax area, including his

capture of a Union general here in March 1963.

Scheduled to participate in the Remembering Mosby Roundtable are authors and

tour leaders Tom Evans, Don Hakenson, Gregg Dudding, Dave Goetz, Dr. Kenneth S.

McAtee, and Bill Etue.

The Remembering Mosby Roundtable is the latest in Fairfax Museum and Visitor

Center's "Catch the History Spirit" program series held the second Sunday of each

Month. The programs are part of the City of Fairfax's yearlong bicentennial celebration,

and topics are linked with the Museum's new permanent Fairfax history exhibition, called The

Fairfax Story.

Upcoming programs include: Feed Sack Quilts and Play Clothes, an illustrated talk by

Joan Knight, Director of the Virginia Quilt Museum, on August 14, and a living history

presentation on September 11 by Mary Wiseman as First Lady Martha Washington. The series

will continue on October 9, November 13, and December 11.

For directions and more information, call: 703-385-8414.
