Subject: FELLOWSHIP: Post-doc at JHU

Patrick Henry Scholar

The Johns Hopkins University is pleased to announce the first annual
competition for the position of Patrick Henry Scholar, a post-doctoral
fellowship offered jointly by the Departments of History and Political
Science. This year we invite applications from candidates who will have
completed their Ph.D.'s in history between June 30, 2002 and June 30,
2006. This two-year fellowship is offered to scholars of the
intellectual and political life of colonial America and the early
republic who have demonstrated excellence in their research. The first
term of the fellowship will begin on July 1, 2006 and terminate on June
30, 2008. The Henry Scholar will teach a one-semester undergraduate
seminar course and will administer the annual Patrick Henry Public
Lecture. The fellowship will alternate between the Departments of
History and Political Science; the 2005-2006 competition is being
conducted for an appointment in the Department of History. The
fellowship carries compensation of $40,000 a year. Candidates should
send a letter of application, curriculum vita, a dissertation abstract
and sample chapter to Professor Toby Ditz, Department of History, Johns
Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21218,
no later than February 15, 2006. Two letters of reference should be
sent independently to the same address.
