This year we invite applications from candidates who will have completed their Ph.D.'s in history between June 30, 2002 and June 30, 2006. This two-year fellowship is offered to scholars of the intellectual and political life of colonial America and the early republic who have demonstrated excellence in their research. The first term of the fellowship will begin on July 1, 2006 and terminate on June 30, 2008. The Henry Scholar will teach a one-semester undergraduate seminar course and will administer the annual Patrick Henry Public Lecture. The fellowship will alternate between the Departments of History and Political Science; the 2005-2006 competition is being conducted for an appointment in the Department of History. The fellowship carries compensation of $40,000 a year. Candidates should send a letter of application, curriculum vita, a dissertation abstract and sample chapter to Professor Toby Ditz, Department of History, Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N.
