John Kern, for more than twenty years regional director of the Virginia
Department of Historic Resources in Roanoke, died Sunday afternoon in an
Abingdon hospital, 18 March 2018, after suffering a heart attack while
attended the annual Virginia Forum at Emory and Henry College. He presented
the last of his many scholarly research projects at a session of the Forum
two days earlier.
