Wm. Byrd III married twice: his first marriage was to Elizabeth Hill
Carter (of the Corotoman Carters). After her death in 1760, he married
Mary Willing of Philadelphia. The Willings were an important
Philadelphia family and Byrd had made their acquaintance during his
service in the French Indian War. Mary Willing Byrd survived her
husband and died in 1814.

As question to David Kiracofe and Listers:

I believe that William Bird III married one of my ancestors. Does anyone
know his wife's maiden name? Or where I could the information?

>I think in the case of William Byrd III-- he of
>famous debts -- his widow Mary Willing Byrd was able to hold off
>creditors by selling off pretty much everything but the Westover
>plantation, but when she died even that went on the block.
