Wm. Byrd III married twice: his first marriage was to Elizabeth Hill Carter (of the Corotoman Carters). After her death in 1760, he married Mary Willing of Philadelphia. The Willings were an important Philadelphia family and Byrd had made their acquaintance during his service in the French Indian War. Mary Willing Byrd survived her husband and died in 1814.
