I would worry more about demeaning the reputation of living authors, 
rather than a long-dead politician.  The authors quoted the Congress-
man directly--the primary source being:  U.S., Crongressional Record,
62d Congress, 2d session, 1912, p. 4457 (also see pp. 4456-59).

The book, by the way, has a very full and informative text and detailed
captions, in addition to great photographs.
