I would worry more about demeaning the reputation of living authors, rather than a long-dead politician. The authors quoted the Congress- man directly--the primary source being: U.S., Crongressional Record, 62d Congress, 2d session, 1912, p. 4457 (also see pp. 4456-59). The book, by the way, has a very full and informative text and detailed captions, in addition to great photographs.
