Mr. Dixon makes an IMPORTANT point, thank you. Indeed the LVA cataloging
(below) for the first of its six copies of one eligible primary-source
edition (also available in the Evans/Readex microcards) suggests that
Hening used Copy 1.

County, Virginia to James Chapman Payne, Liberia, Dec. 12, 1840"; t.p.
has same note with addition of "LaVallee" following "Ferguson."
   Copy 4: t.p. has signature of "John Parham, Philada."
   Copy 5: t.p. wanting; has signature of "John Smith, King and Queen
County."
   Copy 6: p. 223-262 wanting.
