Sporting Library

Carrie Douglass, Professor of Anthropology and Chair of World Languages,
Literatures and Cultures Department at Mary Baldwin College, will deliver a
lecture entitled "Thomas Jefferson: Breeding and Buying Horses, Connecting
Family, Friends, and Neighbors" at 2 PM on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the
National Sporting Library in Middleburg, Va. To attend, please RSVP to
540-687-6542 as seating is limited. (Seats will be reserved on a first-come,
first-serve basis.)

Professor Douglass is presently researching a book on Jefferson, using the
Small Special Collections Library at the University of Virginia and the
Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello.
She is also an authority on Spain and Europe, having published on fiestas,
bullfights, and the phenomenon of low birthrates in Spain and Europe.

The lecture is open to the general public. The National Sporting Library is
located at 102 The Plains Road, Middleburg, Va., 42 miles west of Washington
D.C. just off Route 50. It is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm,
and on Saturday 1 pm to 4 pm. The Library is closed Sunday and Monday. Visit
