For Brent Staples to presume the Hemings-TJ paternity is nothing new. He 
mentions it at a rate of once per year or two or so. In my view, what he 
wrote today about the Loving case, however, merits attention. It also seems 
to me that what Jon Kukla contributed about General John Hartwell Cocke may 
merit attention too, though I note that Cyndi Burton's book also has some 
interesting things to say about that. What I, for one, believe does not 
merit any bandwidth is a resumption of what Brent Tarter recently called 
"the annual shouting match about Thomas Jefferson and sex and race." Thanks.
