Mr. Collins, a native and life-long resident of Caroline County, has
collected data about old structures for decades. He now presents over a
hundred photographs of structures that no longer stand as well as a like
amount for historic houses, churches and schools. The data focuses on
structures that were built before the 20th Century. Brief sketches are in
alphabetical order, and typically include about the site: location, builder
(if known), year established, brief chain of title, comments about
historical significance, present condition, and source codes. Also noted is
whether there is or once was a cemetery on the site, thus linking this
publication to Mr. Collins' previous work on area cemeteries. Photographs
were culled from the compiler's collection, the Virginia Department of
Historic Resources, The Library of Virginia, and other local sources.
Proceeds benefit the Caroline Library. Copies may be ordered from the
Caroline Library, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, VA 22514. $40, plus $5
postage.
