Dear Steve,

Thank you ever so much.  I knew there had been an excavation
there--read the book about it--but did not know the two areas
were the same.  Lucky you to have helped excavate the site.

I am researching the Bailey families that lived in the area.  You
mentioned Cicely who married Samuel Jordan and then Wm
Farrar.  Prior to the marriage to Samuel, she had married a
Bayly (I think Thomas).  A William Bayly had land that was
south of and "near" the mouth of Bayly's Creek.  Can you by
any chance tell me how far the Jordan's Journey palisade was
from Bayly's Creek?

While working at VCU, I had the pleasure of helping excavate Jordan's
Journey, which is on Jordans Point.  I believe that this and "Beggars
Bush" may be the same place.  Samuel Jordan lived here until his death in
1623 or 25, my memory fails me.  After that William Ferrar (I believe it
was William, again it's been a long time), married Cicely and they lived
there until the mid 1630's, when they removed to another of Ferrar's
plantations. Beggar's Bush is from a Shakespeare play I believe.  By the
way, the plantation site was really quite a large palisaded enclosure.
