"A Visit with Elizabeth Keckley" -- Friday, February 11, 2011, at 6:30
p. m.
The public is invited to stop in Centre Hill Museum, 1 Centre Hill
Avenue, Petersburg, Virginia, to learn how Elizabeth Keckley utilized
her intelligence, keen business & design skills to arrange and
ultimately buy her freedom (and that of her son George) and later,
enjoyed regular business with the wives of the government elite as her
clientele. Those attending the program will experience her growing
friendship and learn of the controversial results of her relationship
with Abraham Lincoln's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln.

Elizabeth Keckley, born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, in 1818, was a
former slave turned successful seamstress who is most notably known as
being Mary Todd Lincoln's modiste and confidant. She was also the
author of her autobiography, "Behind the Scenes, or Thirty Years a Slave
and Four Years in the White House."

Suggested donation to support education program development is $3.
