Sorry I did not realize you are a Heming.
Yes the Hemings have been treated Shabbily by all, but as a matter of
national History, I believe the settlement of Jeffersonian paternity would
go a long way to settling a lot of current issues about Jefferson and the
founding fathers. You all are a significant component of American history.
BTW, this make you and I relatives.

John,
Don't know where you got the idea someone wanted the government to pay for
this, and I don't know whose family you are referring to as being
resourceful and not taking hand-outs from the government.
The Madison Hemings do not care to examine the issue further. They do not
want their ancestor dug up and tested. So, why should they be asked to pay
for what is only a salvo for some of the Jefferson descendents in VA.
Reading some of the passages in Jefferson's Children, I understand that some
of the Hemings were not welcomed with open arms when they first attended a
family reunion (at invitation no less!), some even refusing a handshake or a
smile. This behavior is not conductive to making those folks inclined to
open their wallets and pay to prove what they already know from family
tradition to be true anyway.
Let those who are denying that "sufficient" proof exists pay for that which
they will find acceptable.
