Don't forget to check the chancery suits for Cumberland. There are a number
of suits involving the Reynolds family, including an 1823 suit over the
estate of Obediah Reynolds. These records have been scanned by the Library
of Virginia and are on-line. Their Chancery Records Index can be found at
http://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/default.asp#res . Just select the
county and fill in the names you wish to search. I prefer to include them
under the surname rather than Plaintiff or Defendant, expanding the number
of suits. Sometimes individuals have just given an affidavit and sometimes
that affidavit has treasured family information.
Good Luck!

Subject: Re: [VA-ROOTS] Property Tax and Tithe
Shirley and Diane,
Cumberland Co., VA was formed from a part of Goochland Co., VA in 1749. I
checked the Goochland tithe lists, and there was a John Reynolds and a
William Reynolds there in Southam Parish in the mid-1740s (in separate
households). This was the part of the county that became Cumberland Co.,
VA. I saw some info on the internet that claimed that Obadiah/Obediah
Reynolds of Cumberland Co., VA was a son of a John Reynolds. I wonder if
Samuel Reynolds could have been a son of Obadiah/Obediah?
