One of the oldest stone churches in the area near Kerrs Creek was
located over the Rockbridge County line in Augusta County. The church
later became Old Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, in
Spottswood, Virginia. On Monday, March 31st, the Rockbridge Historical
Society will hold its annual dinner meeting in the new Fellowship Hall
of the church located on Spottswood Road (State Route 620) at its
intersection with Old Providence Road, 2.5 miles west of Route 11.
(Site telephone: 540/377-6706).
The featured speaker will be COL Kenneth E. Koons, VMI history
professor, whose talk is entitled Kith, Kin, and Community: Patterns of
Social Experience in the Valley of Virginia during the Age of Grain.
