Greetings,
I am an Afro-American in search of info.

My G-Grand parents were Peter and Allie/Alice Chappell of Halifax Co. Va.

Christopher Carlton a white slave holder died in 1824 (probably in King +
Queen County) Va. In his will Christopher willed to his daughter Polly Carlton
“one Negro Esther and her future increase”.

Dolly died July 7, 1858 without husband, or issue.

In Jan of 1859 the increase of "one Negro Esther", the slave willed to
Polly Carlton were bought by Joel Younger from Polly Carlton's surviving siblings
and the dead siblings children for $1,500 dollars.

"One negro Esther" was mentioned in the papers only to establish that Joel
was purchasing her increase (I am assuming that Ester was then dead.).

The sum of $1,500, bought my g-grand mother Allie and her children, Willis,
Daniel (my grandfather ), Eppa, George, and Henry.

Joel Younger had in fact had posession of Allie before he officially bought
her in 1859, because I found in Slave Birth Records, Allie giving birth to
three of her children, in 1853, 1855, and 1858, with the owner listed as Joel
Younger.

A white man Robert Chappell Sr. died in 1829. Found in a listing of Robert's
property was slave Mary and her child Peter. This Peter may have become the
hubby of Allie/Alice above.

In 1859 Robert Chappell, Jr., son of Robert Sr. above died. In the property
of Robert Chappell Jr., was listed Peter, now a man, valued at $1,250.

Because Thomas Chappell Jr died before the 1860 Census, I looked for him in
the 1850 census, Thomas Chappell Jr. was missing in the 1850 Census.
 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In the 1870 Census for Halifax Co Va, Peter aged 40y (b.abt 1830) and Allie
aged 35 were found with the following children: Willis 20y. George, 15y,
Henry 13y, Peter 12y, Doctor 10y, Davis 9y, Bell 7y, Willy Ann 5y, Edward
 3y, and Horace 6mo.
Daniel my gfather using the Surname Younger, was living nearby with his wife
Sue.

In 1880 I again find Peter 50y, and Allie/Alice 50 y, with children Bell
18y, Willie 16, Doctor 20, Lee (Peter) 22y, Henry 23y, Eppy 24y, Edward 12y,

Horace (Braxton) 11y, Milly 7y, and Corer 4y.

The last mention I found of of Peter Chappell was in the 1899 Personal
Property Tax Listings. Peter was missing in the 1900 PPT list therefore Peter
probably died some time between 1899 & 1900.

Any help out there?
Larry
