What I have found so far has taken some digging on my part. My g-g-g-uncle
was in the Virginia Militia prior to your date and I've gone nuts getting info on
him!
Anyway, your best bet would be to access the Library of Virginia online. Go
to MILITARY RECORDS AND RESOURCES and look under COLLECTION GUIDES
and you will see INDEX TO WAR OF 1812 PAYROLLS AND MUSTER ROLLS: a
fully-searchable personal name index to Pay Rolls of Militia Entitled to Land
Bounty Under the Act of Congress of Sept. 28, 1850 and its supplement,
Muster Rolls of the Virginia Militia in the War of 1812. Approximately 40,000
names are indexed.
After that, if you have access to HeritageQuest Online or to any good library
that would carry historical books on Virginia history post Revolutionary War,
that would definitely help you.
That is about all I know. Maybe someone else from the List can pitch in
something else. Happy Hunting!!
