I have a very big problem that I have spent quite a few hours trying to
solve, and I'm hoping someone on this list can help me.

Joseph Gangwer had a daughter Susanna who is my 2ggrandmother. Some of my
contacts think that Joseph was born in Philadelphia County, PA and his wife
was Susannah Ott, born in Maryland. I am trying to prove or disprove this
theory.

Joseph and Susannah, his wife appear in Rockingham County in the 1820
census. Joseph inherited land from his father (Michael) George in
Rockingham County sometime between 1799 when George bought the land and
1829 when Joseph was selling it. I have not found George's will.

In 1850 Joseph's birth place is shown as Virginia and Susannah as Maryland.
There is a web page that shows Susannah's heritage back three more
generations with her father listed as Francis. This web page shows no
counties or states, but it does show spouses and dates.

In the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City, I found a family
group sheet which shows Francis Ott born in Rockbridge County and all of
his children born there also. It also shows Francis Ott dying in Preble
County, Ohio with a will dated 1815. The marriage records of 10 of his
children are also registered in Preble County, according to the county
website. I have found not found Francis in any census listings nor did I
find the will in LDS Preble County records.

Is anyone else researching the Ott family or the Gangwers who can help me
solve some of my problems? I would love to correspond with you.

Pat
