An even more interesting fact is that my ggg grandparents marriage was
recorded in the Orphan Court record in Adams Co., MS in the early 1800s. Why
marriage records would be there is beyond my understanding.

Subject: ...Infant... "back then"

"It's just mind-boggling that law-makers back then actually referred to
anyone under the age of 21 as "Infants".

Sarge, et al,

"Back then" is not so very long ago. When my father's sister died in
1961 and left a small bequest to my father, who had predeceased her, his
five children received equal shares of his inheritance. I had graduated
high school and would turn 19 later that year, but was referred to in
the court papers as an "infant". But what really fried me was two years
later when I was two months shy of 21 years, had been working for two
years, and had to get my mother to sign for me before I could buy my
first car ... the law still considering me an infant for whom Mother
was financially responsible! Man! Was I ticked!

I must confess, however, that from my current vantage point, it seems
far more logical than having 18-year-olds buying cars and alcoholic
beverages and voting for politicians who take our lives and fortunes
into their hands daily. Perspectives do change with experience.
