Newton KEENE (1725-1771), of St. Stephen's Parish, Northumberland Co., VA
was the son of William Keene and Elizabeth NEWTON. He married Sarah

Letter to Dr. William M. McCarty from G.H.S. King, 4 Jan. 1965, copy in
possession of K. Much: "Capt. Newton Keene (1725-1771) m. 1749, Sarah
Edwards. His will, Northumberland Co., Va. . . . 18 Oct. 1769: Capt Newton
Keene to Mrs. Elizabeth Yerby: 'I am advised I have right to the following
slaves . . . together with a piece of land lying as by the patent dated 5
June 1658 in Potomack Freshes on the south side of the first creek about
Piscataway, as heir-at-law to the late John Woodbridge, Esq: on the side
of his mother - Sarah, who was sister of the whole blood to William Keene,
which was my grandfather."

_Virginia Marriage Bonds_, Marriage Bonds in Lancaster County, p. 293:
"Newton Keene and Sarah Edwards, April 14, 1749; T. Edwards."
Ida J. Lee, _Lancaster County, Virginia, Marriage Bonds 1652-1850_
(Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1965), p. 38: "14
Apr. 1749. Keene, Newton; Sarah Edwards."

W&MQ, ser. 2, vol. 11, no. 2 (Apr 1931), p. 111: "Cases in the High Court
of Chancery. 240 1793. From District Court of Northumberland county. Keene
v. Lee. WILLIAM KEENE, will 1681. Issue: William Keene dec'd had son,
Newton, will 1770, died 1771. Survived by widow and sons: John; Thomas;
and William who has issue. William Keene 2nd
inherited land from Mrs. Banks. Newton Keene inherited lands through his
mother from John Woodbrige. Lands in Fairfax and Loudoun
counties." Appears to have left out one William Keene; Newton was
gt-grandson of Wm who wrote will 1681, grandson of Wm d 1700, and son of
Wm d 1725.

I have information on Newton's and Sarah's ancestors, but not
descendants. What are you looking for?
