I have a large copy portrait of "Mrs. Waring," and would like to know just
who IS "Mrs. Waring?" The provenance of the portrait is through the family
of John Waller Faulconer, Jr. (1856-1926), late of Little Egypt,
Tappahannock, Essex County, Virginia. The portrait is said to have hung
for a short time above the fireplace of the front parlor at Little Egypt.

The portrait is of an adult woman, appearing to be clothed from the early
1800s. The eyes are rather open, and not unlike those of noted painter
Wollaston whose style was to paint "almond" eyes and long necks on heads he
added to pre-painted bodies he had in stock. I can send a copy to anyone
interested, I didn't think one would go through the user list as an
attachment. I believe the copy was made by Mary Elizabeth "Betty"
Faulconer Krueger Thornton (1901-2002), late of Richmond, Virginia, who was
born at Little Egypt.

Mr. Faulconer was a son of John Waller Faulconer, Sr. (c.1820-1859) of
Laurel Grove, and wife Elizabeth Susan Waring (1829-1890). Elizabeth was a
daughter of Capt. William Lowry Waring (1783-1841) by his second wife Mary
Banks (d. 1841). According to Charles W.H. Warner's genealogy of Hoskins
of Virginia and various other Essex County families, Mary Banks was a
daughter of Richard H. Banks of Tappahannock.

It seems likely that the portrait is of this Mrs. [Mary Banks] Waring. My
question is, since I have a copy portrait, who knows the whereabouts of the
original, and does someone know the true identity of the subject based on
the original portrait?
