This is in response to Lakisha Newman. Several years ago a group of us wanted to take a selected number of slave narratives and perform a genealogical reseach on them. I seleted three slave narratives. One of the slave narratives was Byrl (Burl) Anderson. I found a lot of information on Byrl including his slave owner and some of his living relatives. I visited the area that he migrated to after the Civil War.
This project was going to be published but the offer failed through. I have packed the research up and I am not too sure whether I can put my fingers on the research. I worked on Byrl Anderson for whole year and I was very success in finding a great deal about him.
If you like, you can e-mail me at [log in to unmask] Thanks!

Subject: response to Marie McKinney REGARDING POWHATAN MITCHELL
Hello,
I am new to this system and I am trying to figure my way through the site. I came across the site when I was looking for information about my great, great, grandfather, Byrl Anderson of Virginia. I am aware, as Marie McKinney mentioned, that his narrative is in the book called "To Be a Slave" but a more detailed narrative is also available in "Weavils in the Wheat". From my understanding, it is also included in at least 3 other books as well. I emailed Marie to take her up on her offer for information about Powhatan Mitchell but I have not yet gotten a response. If anyone has any information on him, pls let me know and if anyone knows how to get in touch with Marie McKinney, pls contact me.

Dear Lakisha,
I realize it is unlikely that Powhatan Mitchell is connected to my Mitchells who lived in the northeastern corner of TN but I don't want to ignore a possibility. So if there is information about Powhatan, I'd be interested.
